About me

My name is Jane Hird and since graduating, in the mid 80's with a degree in Geography I have worked in Travel, Employment and Customer Services before taking a career break to bring up children. My passion has always been with wellbeing and life sciences, however working in this direction never quite happened - until now!

I first came across The Bowen Technique several years ago when my sister who had been suffering from severe headaches and neck pain for some 5 years, volunteered as a case study to a Bowen Student. She was taking ibuprofen and paracetamol daily and had tried a number of different therapies for relief but to no avail. However, within 3 treatments and following a strong reaction her pain reduced dramatically and, after further treatments she is now pain free and off all medication! Not only that, but her long standing hay fever symptoms had all but disappeared!

I was amazed and fascinated!

I decided to train as a Bowen Therapist partly out of curiosity, but also now as a parent of 4 children with issues ranging from glue ear to asthma, hay fever and eczema I had followed the alternative therapy route on a number of occasions as a complement to conventional medicine. I now treat my daughter regularly with the bowen asthma protocol whenever she feels wheesy or breathless as a result of a cold or hayfever. She is now aware that Bowen has a positive effect on her and will often prompt me to treat her when she feels she needs it.

Increasingly as my boys have got older and play more sport I will treat them for shoulder niggles sore backs, quad pulls or groin strains.

Training and Development

My training with The European College of Bowen Studies (ECBS)I found challenging and extremely thorough. During the process each student is expected to undertake a minimum of 20 case studies, but ultimately we get our hands on many more as the desire to practise takes hold. The experience gained during this process is vital in appreciating that such a minimal approach can have such far reaching effects, as well as in trusting that less really is more in Bowen.

Now, as a fully trained practitioner (Cert ECBS) , Bowen continues to amaze me with it's results and not only seems to energise and revive those that receive it, but is also relaxing and beneficial to give. A total win/win situation.

I am insured as a Bowen Therapist with Balens Specialist Insurance Brokers and hold a current First Aid Certificate with the British Red Cross.

Prior to training in Bowen I obtained distinction in Anatomy and Physiology from The Bristol School of Holistic Therapies (IEB). In addition I have an energy and enthusiasm to research and work to resolve your issues. This for me is the greatest reward of the job.

I live in Bristol, in the heart of Bishopston with my husband Dan and 4 children. I am active member within the local Bristol based Bowen group.
